                     EXPRESSING YOURSELF IN ENGLISH

                              ADVANCED ENGLISH GROUP OCTOBER 2016

こちらの英語上級グループでは、様々な難易度の高いトピックスを英語でディスカッションしたり、ご自身を正確・明確に表現できるように上級・専門的な語彙やフレーズを学びます。さらに、他の方の経験や意見をきき、そこから学び、ご自身の考えを深め・広めていきます。このグループでは２種類のディスカッションを行います。

1.   自分の経験について語る

旅行での経験、仕事、趣味や興味のあること、映画、本、スポーツや芸術においてのそれぞれの考え、もちろん英語習得での経験など自分の人生経験について話します。

2.   文化的・社会的・政治的トピックスについて語る

日本と世界にかかわる様々な文化的・社会的・政治的問題などについて、英語で意見を交換する稀な機会を持ちます。例えば、

* 日本文化と西洋文化の比較

* 日本国内の問題：憲法、日本人口の高齢化、法律・経済の問題

* 中国、韓国、ロシア、アメリカとの国際関係

* 日本の女性や欧米社会

   

レッスン教材

*Expressing Yourself in English: Advanced Conversation text by Thomas Mallinos

*様々な新聞記事やエッセイ

*英語のニュースやテレビ番組の短い動画

また、レッスン中に学ぶ新しい語彙やフレーズが使いこなせるようにレッスンのトピックスに基づいてライティングの宿題が出されます。宿題は添削します。

レッスン時間

レッスン時間についてはまだ決まっていませんが、おそらく１カ月に２回、平日の夜になるかと思います。

グループメンバー

生徒４人～５人、講師１人もしくは２人

                                                              ADVANCED ENGLISH GROUP

In this Advanced English Group, you will have the opportunity to have discussions in English on a wide variety of challenging topics as well as learn advanced and specialized vocabulary words and phrases which will enable you to express yourself with accuracy and clarity.  Furthermore, you will also have the opportunity to listen to and learn from the experiences and opinions of other people and therefore deepen and broaden you own mind.  This group will have 2 kinds of discussions:

Talking about Personal Experiences

We will talk about our life experiences as they relate to our travel experiences, our career, our hobbies and interests, our thoughts on movies, books, sports and art as well as your experiences in learning English.

Especially, you will have to opportunity to talk about your work experiences and learn about the work experiences from various professions.

Talking about Cultural, Social and Political Topics　 

You will have the rare opportunity to express your opinions in English on a wide variety of cultural, social and political issues which are related to both Japan and International relations. For example

* Comparing Japanese culture to western culture

* Japanese domestic issues: The constitution, Japan’s aging population, legal and economic issues.　 

* International Relations with China, Korea, Russia, The United States

* Women in Japanese and western society

LESSON MATERIAL:

*Expressing Yourself in English: Advanced Conversation text by Thomas Mallinos

*Various newspaper articles and essays that will be given to you

*Short video clips from English news and television programs

You will also be given writing homework based on the lesson topics so that you can practice using the new vocabulary words and phrases you learned during the lesson.  I will correct your writing homework.

LESSON TIME　

The lesson time has not yet been decided but most likely we will meet twice a month on a weekday night.
